Position: Sr Application Engineer
Location: Greater Oconomowoc Area
Summary:
As a Sr Application Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in supporting our sales team by developing innovative equipment/system concepts, providing technical documentation/engineering support, and evaluating competitive project costs. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to take on a leadership role and make a significant impact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This role is designed for an experienced engineer with a self-supporting knowledge base. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Review RFQs: Ensure completeness and develop project-specific questions for submission to customers.
  • Project Clarification: Clarify project RFQ scope requirements through scheduled meetings with sales or customers.
  • Process Development: Lead process development testing for specific projects, including test procedures and test apparatus setup.
  • Technical Astuteness: Perform engineering calculations, including product heating/cooling load calcs, recirculation air calcs, and strength of materials calcs.
  • Vendor Qualification: Research and qualify vendor/manufacturer components for concept designs.
  • Drawings and Models: Generate 2D sales drawings and Solidworks models for equipment/system concepts and ancillary components.
  • Costing: Develop budgetary and firm project costs with competitive price considerations.
  • Order Entry: Review purchase order contracts and develop internal and external job order documentation.
  • Project Management: Schedule and lead job kick-off meetings, develop customer Gantt charts, monitor job costs, and facilitate internal/external status update meetings.
  • Support Sales: Be the support lead for sales during customer buy-off of equipment.
Essential Job Requirements:
  • Physical Requirements: Capable of long durations of sitting or standing. Ability to perform light lifting.
  • Driving & Travel Requirements: Must maintain a valid state driver's license, reliable transportation, and carry the state minimum required auto insurance. Travel occasionally (10-15% annually).
  • Customer Service and Communication: Maintain confidentiality, use discretion with business information, and maintain an approachable demeanor. Focus on clear, concise communication with clients, vendors, and peers.
  • Analytical Aptitude: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Focus and Direction: Handle interruptions, refocus, and stay on task. Proactive, self-directed approach to daily requirements and projects.
  • Technology: Proficient with basic software and smartphone technology. Proficient with MS Office applications and Solidworks 3D modeling.
Education and Experience:
  • 4-year degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an application engineer position or equivalent technical role.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with products requiring thermodynamics knowledge.
