Position Title: Senior Electrical and Automation Design Engineer

Wage: $130,000 - $165,000/year

The Senior Electrical and Automation Design Engineer plays a key leadership role in designing electrical power distribution and automation systems for municipal water and wastewater facilities. This position bridges consulting engineering and integration design, ensuring that every solution meets the highest standards of performance, safety, and reliability.

This is a senior-level position ideal for candidates with 15+ years of experience who are eager to take ownership of complex projects, mentor junior staff, and guide multidisciplinary teams from concept through completion.

Senior Electrical and Automation Design Engineer Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of electrical distribution systems, including single-line diagrams, plan drawings, panel schedules, and equipment layouts
- Oversee control system and automation design, including PLC architectures, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and communication networks
- Serve as technical lead and project mentor, providing oversight and review for engineering deliverables across multiple projects
- Prepare and review project specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and process control systems
- Develop detailed P&IDs, control panel schematics, bills of material, and communication diagrams
- Ensure all designs comply with industry codes, standards, and best practices
- Collaborate with integrators, project managers, and clients to ensure seamless integration between design and implementation phases
- Conduct site visits for design verification, troubleshooting, and system commissioning support
- Contribute to the development and refinement of company design standards and best practices

Requirements for Senior Electrical and Automation Design Engineer:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited program)
- Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical and automation design, preferably in the water/wastewater or related process industries
- Strong understanding of electrical power distribution, PLC/SCADA systems, instrumentation, and industrial automation
- Proven ability to lead projects and mentor design teams
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- AutoCAD proficiency required; Autodesk Revit experience strongly preferred
- Experience with SKM, ETAP, or other electrical study software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Visio (or willingness to learn quickly)
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, and ISA standards
