The Full-Stack Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our web properties and related systems. This role supports organizational goals by building reliable, secure, and accessible web experiences; integrating third-party platforms (such as membership, donation, and email tools); and optimizing site performance, SEO, and user pathways to drive engagement and conversions.
Full Stack Web Developer Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain web applications across front-end and back-end systems, delivering responsive interfaces, clean architecture, and reliable functionality across devices and browsers.
- Build and maintain APIs and integrations that connect web properties to third-party services (e.g., CRM/membership tools, donation platforms, email marketing, event registration), ensuring secure and dependable data flow
- Design, query, and maintain databases that support core site functions (forms, accounts, donations, and event registrations), including data validation, storage, backups, and basic reporting needs
- Test and monitor application health, troubleshoot incidents, and resolve bugs across the full stack (UI, server logic, and database)
- Conduct routine site audits, apply updates, and perform ongoing maintenance to keep systems stable, secure, and current
- Improve page speed and overall application performance, implement SEO best practices, and maintain accessibility compliance by using standards-based development and routinely reviewing site structure, metadata, and user experience
- Develop and publish new web pages, landing pages, and site updates that support programs, campaigns, events, and fundraising initiatives, ensuring a consistent design and brand experience across the site
- Support key online actions—such as donation flows, forms, membership pathways, and email signups—by improving usability, reducing friction, and ensuring tools function correctly across devices and browsers
- Ensure the website meets accessibility standards and follows security and privacy best practices by managing permissions, supporting backups, and aligning site changes with organizational data practices
- Partner with Marketing & Communications, Development, Programs, and external vendors/contractors to translate goals into technical solutions; maintain clear documentation; and communicate progress, timelines, risks, and release plans
Qualifications for Full Stack Web Developer:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
- Ability to foster an inclusive, welcoming environment through respectful, patient, culturally responsive service and by valuing diverse perspectives among visitors, members, chapter leaders, volunteers, and colleagues
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully, tactfully, clearly, and concisely across all levels of the organization while actively listening and respecting different points of view
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently while building positive working relationships with staff, members, chapters, vendors, volunteers, and colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information while maintaining a high level of discretion and professionalism
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with effective time management and consistent deadline follow-through
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and implement efficiencies in processes
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced computer proficiency, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and applicable software platforms
- Full-stack development expertise including strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and experience with back-end languages/frameworks (e.g., Node.js, PHP, Python, or similar)
- Experience building and supporting integrations with third-party tools and APIs (e.g., CRM/membership systems, donation platforms, email marketing, event registration)
- Database and data management skills including working knowledge of relational and/or non-relational databases, data validation, and secure handling of user-submitted information
- Ability to optimize and maintain modern websites with knowledge of performance best practices, SEO, accessibility standards (WCAG), troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance workflows
