Job Description: Machining Manager

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Machining Manager to lead our machining operations and ensure the efficient and effective production of high-quality precision components. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in machining processes, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of optimizing production workflows and managing machining teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of machinists, operators, and technicians. Provide direction, guidance, and support to ensure that team members are motivated, trained, and working collaboratively to meet production goals and quality standards.

  • Production Planning: Develop and implement production schedules, ensuring that all machining operations are executed efficiently and on time. Coordinate with other departments, such as engineering and quality control, to align production plans with overall business objectives.

  • Process Optimization: Continuously review and improve machining processes, tooling, and equipment to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize downtime. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to achieve higher levels of productivity and quality.

  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with the quality control team to establish and maintain rigorous quality standards for all machined components. Implement quality control measures, conduct inspections, and address any deviations from specifications.

  • Resource Management: Monitor and manage the allocation of resources, including materials, manpower, and machinery, to ensure optimal utilization and cost-effectiveness.

  • Health and Safety: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations within the machining department. Identify and mitigate potential hazards, promote a culture of safety, and ensure that all team members are trained in safe operating procedures.

  • Performance Monitoring: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the machining department. Regularly analyze production data to identify trends, address inefficiencies, and make data-driven decisions to improve overall performance.

  • Training and Development: Identify training needs and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for team members. Foster a learning environment that promotes skill enhancement and career growth.

  • Supplier Relationships: Collaborate with procurement and supplier management teams to ensure a steady supply of raw materials, tooling, and equipment necessary for machining operations. Maintain positive relationships with suppliers to address any issues or delays.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Several years of experience in machining operations, with progressively increasing responsibility and leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, tooling, and materials.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing software, such as CAD/CAM software and ERP systems.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment.
