Position Title: Manufacturing Group Leader
Wage: Based on Experience
Shift: 3rd
Hours: 10:00pm - 6:00am (Sunday - Thursday); Limited Overtime as Needed
We are seeking a Manufacturing Group Leader in Centerville, IA to provide direct supervision and leadership for production teams with a focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity. This position is responsible for driving measurable and sustainable improvements across assigned operations through strategic execution, daily management practices, and employee engagement.
The Manufacturing Group Leader will provide both people and process leadership for assigned departments and value streams, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and team development. This individual will serve as a role model, provide frequent coaching and feedback, and promote a culture centered around Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and structured problem-solving.
This role reports directly to the Plant Manager and serves as the primary leadership presence during 3rd shift operations.
Manufacturing Group Leader Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate, and develop production teams to achieve operational goals
- Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for results
- Provide coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and employee development
- Promote teamwork, collaboration, and a positive work environment
- Support staffing, cross-training, and workforce development initiatives
- Lead by example and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Drive performance related to safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity metrics
- Utilize Daily Management systems and standard work practices to achieve operational objectives
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives and Kaizen events
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Use data-driven decision-making and structured problem-solving methodologies
- Identify and eliminate waste while improving operational efficiency
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and operating standards
- Conduct incident investigations and support corrective actions
- Drive quality improvements and support zero-defect initiatives
- Monitor and improve key performance indicators related to safety and quality
- Partner with operations, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and other departments to support business objectives
- Lead or participate in facility improvement projects and operational enhancements
- Support change management initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across the organization
Requirements for Manufacturing Group Leader:
- 5+ years of manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Lean Manufacturing experience (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Visual Management, etc.) is a plus
- Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives preferred
- Experience with change management and project management tools preferred
- Strong coaching and employee development capabilities
- Cross-functional experience in manufacturing operations, supply chain, quality, materials management, or related disciplines
- Experience in fabrication, sheet metal, welding, or paint operations is a plus
