Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer - R&D

Job Summary: As a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Research and Development (R&D), you will play a crucial role in the creation, innovation, and development of packaging equipment components and systems. This position involves designing, documenting, and overseeing the manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning of cutting-edge packaging manufacturing machinery for the food and beverage industry.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct or coordinate the mechanical design of packaging equipment components and systems.
  • Apply engineering and manufacturing standards consistently and accurately.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive mechanical documentation, including BOMs, spares, flow charts, part drawings, assembly drawings, and schematics.
  • Ensure alignment of R&D projects with organizational policies and objectives.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, high motivation, and adherence to target dates.
  • Work with a high degree of creativity and autonomy.
  • Develop and track progress through metrics and tangible goals.
  • Produce timely and detailed plans, summaries, and status reports.
  • Apply engineering principles to design, prototype, test, evaluate, and implement new designs.
  • Prototype, validate, and troubleshoot designs both internally and with external partners.
  • Transition new designs into production, providing consultation and design support.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to enhance existing product lines.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and understanding of various engineering disciplines.
  • Work independently and within a team environment effectively.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement outlook and suggest, promote, and champion product changes.
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines through effective time management.
  • Translate abstract concepts into physical, testable prototypes.
  • Perform sizing and optimization analysis for design recommendations and testing.
  • Conduct strength and sizing calculations or other analytical techniques in the design or modification of packaging equipment.
  • Obtain vendor quotations and set up parts in the ERP system.
  • Understand packaging machines and processes.
  • Attend training and vendor seminars.

Qualifications:
  • Education generally equivalent to a four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience and specialized training.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design and documentation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for effective design communication.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM, and various ERP systems.
