Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead plant operations within a steel manufacturing environment in Kansas City, MO. This role is responsible for overseeing daily production activities, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and driving operational excellence across safety, quality, delivery, and workforce performance.
The Operations Manager will establish clear objectives, align resources effectively, and foster a high-performing, team-oriented culture focused on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
Operations Manager Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily plant operations including production, maintenance, shipping, and receiving
- Drive improvements in production efficiency, capacity utilization, and cost control while maintaining quality standards
- Ensure accountability for production output, product quality, and on-time delivery
- Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with business goals
- Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team; manage hiring, training, and employee relations
- Analyze operational data to identify waste, inefficiencies, and overtime opportunities
- Enforce plant safety procedures and ensure compliance across all teams
- Ensure adherence to company policies, ISO standards, and all federal, state, and local regulations
- Conduct regular inspections of plant operations, equipment, and facility grounds
- Collaborate cross-functionally with departments including sales, quality, procurement, finance, and HR
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction
Requirements for Operations Manager:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably in steel or aluminum
- 8+ years of progressive leadership experience
- Strong financial management knowledge and business acumen
- OSHA certification preferred
- Proven leadership experience in a manufacturing or plant operations environment
- Strong understanding of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, HR)
- Familiarity with steel manufacturing equipment and processes preferred
- Knowledge of safety, quality, productivity, inventory, and operational best practices
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to build accountability and lead by example
- Excellent team-building, decision-making, and people management skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
