Job Description


Job Title: Manufacturing Planner & Project Coordinator

Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Manager of Estimating and Planning


Objective:

To convert customer requirements (output of the estimating process) into high quality, actionable product realization plans for production with the goal to meet company metrics.


Responsibilities:

Ability to plan jobs of varying degrees of complexity across one or more manufacturing divisions (aerospace, commercial and/or machining) as follows:
  • Developing manufacturing approach, including manufacturing aids (jigs, fixtures, templates, tooling, etc.) by working with more senior planners, estimators, production consultants/experts, QA personnel, customer, etc., and utilizing all available planning tools that produces a finished product that meets/exceeds customer requirements and within the budgets established by the estimators.
  • Developing material needs of job (selection of material types, sources, processing, budgets, etc.) by working with estimators, more senior planners, production consultants/experts, customer, etc. that meets/exceeds customer requirements and within the budgets established by the estimators.
  • Developing required shop documentation/work packages, technical drawings, job instructions, and quality documentation needed for job by working with CAD specialists/designers (as required), estimators, more senior planners, production consultants/experts, customer, etc.
  • Conducting briefings with all interested parties (management, production resources, QA personnel, customer, etc.) to keep them informed of progress on plans and answer questions relating thereto.
  • Assisting QA personnel with final compliance reviews as requested (by covering BFDI highlights of job with QA inspector to facilitate more thorough, timely final inspections).
  • Performing lookback analysis of suitability of finished product to assess effectiveness of their plans. Ensure future plans incorporate positive practices and lessons learned from previous efforts as needed.

  • Ability to effectively plan and organize workload to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to initiate projects, anticipate changes, set new priorities, follow through and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic material characteristics as it pertains to fabrication and machining.
  • Knowledge of equipment capabilities and selection.
  • Ability to research through the Internet and various other sources to identify suppliers and products.
  • Knowledge of other processes (coating, plating, heat treating, sandblasting, load testing).
  • Ability to undertake additional responsibilities at the discretion of the Planning Manager or other senior leadership.


Inspection Skills:
  • Ability to use basic inspection tools.
  • Ability to find defects.
  • Ability to perform inspections and fill out/review inspection logs.
 
Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, including use of fractions.
  • Basic understanding of computers (Microsoft Office, e-mail) and handheld calculators.
  • Ability to read simple blueprints.
  • Ability to use basic inspection tools.
  • Basic proficiency in hand drawing/drafting and CAD software systems.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize workload to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to research through the internet and various other sources to identify suppliers and products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to cooperate, work and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to initiate projects, anticipate changes, set new priorities, follow thru and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to converse and understand terminology related to the metal fabrication and machining business.
  • Ability to make sound and proper decisions by drawing on professional expertise.


Physical Characteristics:
  • Able to lift 5 - 20 lbs.
  • Able to sit or stand on feet for most of shift.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Must be able to view work on shop floor from time to time <20%.


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • High school diploma required.
  • 6 months experience (or internship/co-op) required in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the metal fabrication industry.
  • Associates degree in a related course of study preferred (industrial, mechanical, CAD, etc.) or technical degree in a related manufacturing field.


Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
 
Work Location:

Office and production environment with 100% of time expected to be worked on-site.
 
Travel:

Travel is not a recurring condition of this position. Overnight travel <5%


Environmental Conditions:
  • Subject to environmental conditions. The facility provides protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. No protections from weather when walking between buildings.
  • May be subject to noise while in the shop. There is enough noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
