We are seeking a results-driven Plant Controller for our client in Madison, WI to provide financial leadership for their manufacturing facility of approximately $75M. This role is responsible for plant-level P&L and balance sheet ownership, budgeting, forecasting, GAAP compliance, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will partner closely with operations to drive profitability, improve operational efficiency, and support strategic decision-making in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a direct hire position that offers a competitive compensation and benefits package that reports up to the Director of Finance.
Plant Controller Responsibilities:
- Own and manage plant financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, budgets, and forecasts
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes in compliance with GAAP and internal control requirements
- Analyze operational and financial performance; develop KPIs and provide actionable insights to leadership
- Support cost accounting, inventory management, labor optimization, and MRP utilization
- Partner with operations to improve productivity, reduce costs, and optimize manufacturing processes
- Develop profitability models, pricing analysis, and customer/product market segmentation
- Provide financial support for capital investment analysis and strategic planning initiatives
- Oversee inventory cycle counts, physical inventories, and coordinate with external auditors
- Support ERP and financial systems enhancements and implementations
Qualifications for Plant Controller:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive finance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of ERP/manufacturing systems and their impact on financial reporting
- Proven experience with cost accounting, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable business insights
- Experience supporting sales and commercial teams with pricing and value-based analysis
- Strong analytical, documentation, reporting, and computer skills
- Ability to adapt quickly, manage competing priorities, and build trust across teams
