Quality Engineer - Coatings

Essential Job Responsibilities:
•   Ensure that the paint, primer, powder coat, DFL, Teflon, etc... applied to surfaces meet the required standards and specifications by supporting quality inspections and tests.
•   Lead and participate in qualification and approval efforts using industry tools.
•   Identify opportunities for process improvement and work closely with the production team to implement corrective actions and enhance the overall quality of coatings.
•   Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements related to coatings application, such as ASTM, MIL, NADCAP, or customer-specific standards.
•   Investigate and analyze quality issues, customer complaints, and non-conforming coatings to identify root causes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
•   Develop and maintain quality control systems, including process controls, inspection procedures, and testing protocols, to ensure consistent quality of coatings.
•   Review documentation, such as Frozen plans.
•   Interface with internal and external stakeholders to meet company goals and customer requirements.
•   Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures to support and maintain AS9100 and NADCAP compliance.
•   Analyze non-conformance trends to evaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions.

•   Develop processes as it relates to planning and contract review, in regard to pretreatment options.
Job Requirements and Skills:
•   A strong understanding of adhesion testing requirements and industry specifications
•   Should be able to identify visual nonconformities such as runs, sags, fisheyes, pinholes, FOD, blisters, wrinkling, cracking, etc…
•   Working knowledge of Quality principles such as Six Sigma methodology and continuous improvement tools. ASQ certification preferred.
•   Provide training and guidance to production personnel on proper coating application techniques, quality standards, and best practices. Conduct regular educational sessions to enhance the understanding of coatings technology and quality requirements.
•   Drive continuous improvement initiatives by monitoring key quality metrics, conducting data analysis, and implementing corrective actions to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the coating process.
•   In-depth understanding of Quality Management Systems, specifically ISO 9001:2015, AS9100:2016 and special processing NADCAP strongly preferred.
•   Practical experience using a variety of software solutions consisting of but not limited to ERPs, MRPs, CRMs, Microsoft Office, and engineering drafting/modeling tools.
•   Individual must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•   Advanced problem solving and critical thinking skills required.
•   Proven experience in measurement systems and reporting methodologies.
•   Must have technical report and procedure writing skills.
•   Engineering drawing and specification interpretation skills required.
•   Advanced computer literacy preferred.
