Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join one of our clients. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting various engineering programs, encompassing product, manufacturing, and application engineering. This role involves design, prototyping, and laboratory testing activities leading up to production launch.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand customer technical requirements and deliver satisfactory designs.
- Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, data, and drawings/models to determine design factors and tolerances.
- Design for manufacturability, considering different materials and manufacturing processes.
- Lead or participate in design reviews, capturing lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
- Utilize computer-assisted design/drafting tools to develop designs.
- Maintain control over drawings, models, and relevant documents.
- Utilize and enhance engineering tools and processes, such as risk assessment, FMEA, control plans, DFM, DVP&R, process validation, and PPAP.
- Follow company engineering processes, including Phase/Gate, Engineering Change Order, and program reporting.
- Provide technical data to support sales presentations to customers.
- Suggest different manufacturing processes and materials.
- Lead customer meetings and collaborate directly with customers on design-related tasks.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior Design Engineers.
Education & Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Proficiency in relevant software.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with various materials, coatings, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of different manufacturing process capabilities.
- Ability to engage in customer meetings and work directly on design-related tasks.
- Capability to manage suppliers in relation to prototype builds and changes/corrections.
- Ability to multitask and meet target dates.
- Experience with Root Cause analysis activities.
- Understanding of Cost of Goods (COGS) and its impact on material and manufacturing costs.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with relevant methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing).
- Experience with relevant software or tools.
- Experience with industry-standard procedures (e.g., FMEA).
